Goal: “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

SDG 13 is a call to address the existential threat of climate change, which disproportionately affects vulnerable regions—especially Africa, despite contributing less than 4% of global emissions. The goal integrates mitigation (reducing emissions) and adaptation (building resilience).

Objectives of SDG 13

  1. Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards.
  2. Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies, and planning.
  3. Improve education and awareness on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  4. Mobilize financial support for developing countries for climate-related planning and management.
  5. Promote mechanisms for capacity-building in climate change-related planning and management.

  • Temperature Rise: Africa is warming 1.5x faster than the global average (IPCC).
  • Food Security: Climate shocks threaten 60% of Africa’s cropland (droughts, locusts).
  • Displacement: By 2050, 86 million Africans could migrate due to climate impacts (World Bank).
